Temporary Veneer & Crown Post-Operative Care Instructions

January 1, 2026

1. Numbness: It is normal for your lips, tongue, and cheeks to remain numb for a few hours after treatment. Avoid hot foods and drinks to prevent burns and avoid chewing hard or chewy foods until the numbness has fully worn off to prevent accidentally biting your cheek or tongue.

2. Tenderness & Gum Irritation: Some tenderness, redness, or mild irritation around the gums and injection sites is common. Warm saltwater rinses can help soothe the area. Mix ½ tablespoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and rinse gently.

3. Tooth Sensitivity: Mild tooth sensitivity is normal and should improve within a few days. If the sensitivity becomes worse or does not improve, please contact our office. Using Sensodyne toothpaste may help reduce sensitivity.

4. Soreness Relief: If medically appropriate for you, taking ibuprofen or a similar anti-inflammatory medication can help relieve soreness. Applying a warm compress to your jaw may also help with discomfort.

5. Bite Adjustment: Once the freezing has completely worn off, your bite should feel comfortable and even. If your bite feels off or uneven, please contact us so we can adjust it and help prevent chipping or bruising of the teeth.

6. Food Precautions: Avoid sticky, crunchy, or very hard foods, as temporary veneers and crowns are made from a thin plastic material and can loosen or fracture.

7. Flossing Instructions: When flossing around your temporary restoration, slide the floss out from the side instead of lifting it straight back up. This helps prevent the temporary from becoming loose.

8. Avoid Staining Foods & Drinks: Temporary restorations can stain easily. Avoid foods and drinks that could stain a white shirt, such as red wine, grape juice, turmeric, coffee, tea, and smoking.

9. If a Temporary Comes Off: If your temporary veneer or crown comes off, you may place a small amount of toothpaste inside it to temporarily hold it in place. Please call our office as soon as possible so we can re-cement it for you.

Kindly contact our office should you have any questions or concerns.
