Botulinum Toxin Post-Treatment Instructions

January 1, 2026

1. EXERCISE THE TREATED MUSCLES

For the first 1–2 hours after treatment, gently exercise the treated muscles by practicing facial expressions such as frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting. This may help the Botulinum Toxin settle into the muscles, although forgetting to do so will not negatively affect your results.

2. AVOID RUBBING OR STRENUOUS ACTIVITY FOR 4 HOURS

Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for 4 hours following treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise, facials, saunas, or other activities that may increase blood pressure during this time, as they may increase the risk of temporary bruising. You may shower and continue most normal daily activities.

3. DO NOT LIE DOWN FOR 4 HOURS

Remain upright for at least 4 hours after treatment to avoid unnecessary pressure on the treated areas and reduce the risk of accidental rubbing.

4. TEMPORARY REDNESS OR BUMPS ARE NORMAL

Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection sites are normal and usually resolve within a few hours. If applying makeup within 4 hours of treatment, use a gentle touch and avoid rubbing the area.

5. RESULTS TAKE TIME TO DEVELOP

Results may take up to 14 days to fully develop. Please wait 14 days before assessing your results.

6. TWO-WEEK FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT

A follow-up assessment with one of our providers is required approximately 2 weeks after treatment. This appointment allows us to evaluate how your facial muscles responded and determine whether any adjustments or additional product are needed. Any additional product used will be subject to an additional charge.

For medical documentation purposes, treatment results may be photographed and securely stored in your confidential patient file.

7. MAINTAINING YOUR RESULTS

Because Botox treatments are customized to your individual muscle activity, it is important to maintain movement in the muscles while minimizing excessive facial creasing.

8. TREATMENT LONGEVITY

Botox is a temporary treatment. Initial results typically last approximately 3–4 months. With regular maintenance treatments as recommended by your providers, results may last longer over time.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT SCHEDULE

Follow-up treatments every 3–4 months (12–16 weeks) is recommended to achieve the best long-term results. Allowing Botox to wear off completely may make it more difficult to assess muscle movement patterns and optimize future treatment outcomes.

9. BOOKING YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT

Please schedule your next appointment before leaving the office today. Our team will contact you with a reminder prior to your appointment. If your scheduled date or time is not convenient, we are happy to adjust it to better fit your schedule.
