Congratulations on your new dental bridge! Proper care during the healing process is essential to ensure optimal results. Your bridge is a valuable dental restoration. Proper care and maintenance will extend its lifespan and keep your smile healthy.
Please carefully follow these instructions:
1. Oral Hygiene
• Brushing: Brush your teeth gently but thoroughly twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Pay extra attention to the area around the bridge to keep it clean. The use of a fluoridated toothpaste will help strengthen and reduce the risk of cavities.
• Flossing: Use special floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean under and around the bridge at least once a day. Proper hygiene prevents plaque buildup and gum disease.
• Waterpik: Can be helpful to flush out debris around and under the bridge. This is to be used in combination with flossing.
2. Diet
• First 24 hours: Avoid chewing on the side of the mouth with the new bridge to allow the cement to fully set.
• Avoid: Hard or sticky foods that could dislodge or damage the bridge.
• Chew carefully: Until you are accustomed to the bridge, be cautious with hard foods.
3. Sensitivity and Discomfort
• Normal: Mild sensitivity or discomfort around the bridge area for a few days is normal. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate any discomfort.
• Contact us: If you experience persistent pain, swelling, or any other concerns.
4. Avoid Habits
• No biting: Avoid biting fingernails, chewing on pens, or using your teeth to open packages, as these can damage the bridge.
• Grinding/Clenching: These habits should be managed with a nightguard appliance, to protect the bridge from undesirable wear and tear.
5. Oral Health Maintenance
• Regular check-ups: Maintain regular dental visits for cleanings and check-ups to ensure the longevity of your bridge.
• Early signs: Report any unusual symptoms such as sensitivity, pain, or changes in the fit of the bridge.
