It is important to care for your new denture regularly so that it can continue replacing your missing teeth for as long as required. Please follow these instructions and make maintaining your denture part of your regular oral health routine.
Clean with the brush provided – by using water or dish soap. Do not use toothpaste as it is abrasive and may scratch your denture.
Always store your denture in the case and in a secure place – this will protect it from being misplaced as well as from pesky pets. Dentures make for very expensive pet chew toys! Never wrap it in a napkin as these can be accidentally thrown away.
Deep clean your denture weekly - with an over-the-counter denture/appliance cleaner (POLIDENT). Use as directed. Alternatively, mix a capful of mouthwash with water and let soak for 30 mins.
Avoid any cleaning agents containing bleach - will corrode any metal components in the denture.
In specific cases, it may be necessary to rinse the denture AND your mouth with an antibacterial rinse. This will be directed by your dentist and/or hygienist.
Clean your case too – important to keep the case clean to prevent bacterial growth and transfer. Wash regularly with dish soap. Do not place in dishwasher as the heat will cause it to melt or distort.
Bring your denture to your dental cleaning appointments – the hygienist and dentist will be happy to inspect for signs of wear and tear and check for proper fit. We are always happy to clean your denture with our professional ultrasonic cleaner during your appointment!
