It is important to care for your night guard regularly so that it can continue protecting your teeth for as long as possible.
Please follow these instructions and make maintaining your night guard part of your regular oral health routine.
• Rinse immediately after wearing with warm water.
• Clean with the brush provided by using water or dish soap. Do not use toothpaste as it is abrasive and may scratch your night guard.
• Allow your night guard to completely dry out between uses. This will prevent bacterial growth.
• Always store your night guard in a case and in a secure place. This will protect it from excessive bathroom humidity as well as from pesky pets. Night guards make for very expensive pet chew toys!
• Deep clean your sports guard weekly with an over-the-counter denture/appliance cleaner (POLIDENT). Use as directed. Alternatively, mix a capful of mouthwash with water and let soak for 30 minutes.
• Do not let soak for longer than 1 hour, as extended liquid exposure can cause damage to the night guard material.
• Clean your case too. It’s important to keep the case clean to prevent bacterial growth and transfer. Wash regularly with dish soap. Do not place in the dishwasher, as the heat will cause it to melt or distort.
• Bring your night guard to your dental cleaning appointments. Our hygienists and dentists will be happy to inspect it for signs of wear and tear and check for proper fit. We are always happy to clean your night guard with our professional ultrasonic cleaner during your appointment!
